Eni UK Efficiently Mills Out Stuck Metal Centralizer with Tractor-Powered Wireline Intervention Service

Eni UK, working in the Irish Sea, UK, needed help removing a 6-in-long stuck slickline fluted centralizer jammed above a subsea safety valve in an injector well. Previous milling with a conventional tungsten carbide bit had removed only part of the obstruction after more than two weeks, so Eni turned to SLB’s ReSOLVE instrumented wireline intervention service.

SLB recommended a custom annular bit with nine tips and three geometries, used with ReSOLVE and a TuffTRAC cased hole services tractor and the MillOptimizer autonomous milling system. The optimized setup cleared the remaining metal in just 12 hours at 0.15 in/h, while providing real-time monitoring and control throughout the operation.
