A SLB Case Study
Eni, working offshore Mexico, faced a serious casing damage challenge after a service company’s perforating guns fired prematurely and damaged the 9⅝-in and 13⅜-in casing strings. With limited rig availability, Eni needed a metal-to-metal, gas-tight repair rated to 5,000 psi quickly or risk having to schedule an expensive sidetrack. SLB, then Schlumberger, recommended its Casing Reconnect system to restore casing integrity and keep the well on track.
SLB’s solution involved cutting and recovering the damaged 9⅝-in casing, performing a cement squeeze in the 13⅜-in annulus, and installing the Casing Reconnect system on new casing to reconnect it to the remaining casing. The system was assembled, tested with 13Cr110 casing, and shipped in time to meet a 2-week deadline. The repair was completed with no NPT, passed a 5,000 psi test, restored well integrity, and enabled Eni to continue completion without a sidetrack, saving an estimated 3 months of rig time.
