Eni Receives Industry-First While-Drilling Analysis of Hydrocarbon Composition

Eni worked with SLB to improve formation testing and sampling in a wildcat exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico. The company needed a faster, more efficient way to obtain reservoir-representative samples, optimize pressure testing, and better understand uncertain fluid properties while drilling.

SLB deployed the SpectraSphere fluid mapping-while-drilling service to capture downhole samples and deliver in situ fluid analysis in real time, including hydrocarbon composition and reservoir pressure data. The service transmitted C1 through C6+ and CO2 composition while drilling, provided lab-quality fluid profiling, and matched lab results later verified by PVT testing, saving Eni an estimated 10 weeks of lab time in future sampling operations.
