A SLB Case Study
Eni, the Italian oil and gas company, needed a better way to model increasingly complex reservoirs across its global assets so it could improve prediction reliability and speed up decision making. Existing reservoir simulation tools were too limited for cases such as aquifer CO2 injection, heterogeneous deepwater reservoirs, and large-scale development planning, so Eni turned to SLB and its INTERSECT high-resolution reservoir simulator.
SLB implemented INTERSECT across Eni’s most complex fields, using the company’s HPC2 computing center to run detailed models in economic timeframes without resorting to upscaling. The results included faster and more reliable simulations, such as reducing one study from 20 hours to 26 minutes and enabling simulation of models with hundreds of millions of active cells, which improved forecast accuracy and accelerated field development decisions.
