A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with East Siberia Operating Company to drill an extended horizontal section in a remote East Siberia field. The customer faced harsh weather, complex geology, extended salt intervals, hard dolomites and limestones, and unstable shale that made directional control, wellbore stability, and drilling efficiency difficult.
SLB used its i-DRILL engineered drilling system to customize a bottomhole assembly combining PowerDrive X6 and PowerDrive vorteX rotary steerable systems, SHARC PDC drill bits, and FLO-VIS NT premium-grade viscosifier. The system drilled 3,871 m, completed the well more than 4 days ahead of plan, achieved an average ROP of 34.1 m/h, and delivered an operational rate of 6.15 days per 1,000 m, setting a field record for the longest well and most complex trajectory.
