Engineered OptiPac Service Saves 48 Hours of Rig Time and Over USD 1 Million, Deepwater Gulf of Mexico

SLB worked with a Gulf of Mexico based operating company to complete an openhole gravel-pack in a record-depth deepwater well at 19,350 feet TVD. The operator faced challenges from long, low-permeability sands, a shale section, hole instability risk, and difficult tool handling at depth, all of which made it hard to achieve a full annular pack and protect the filtercake.

SLB used its OptiPac openhole Alternate Path gravel-pack service with a QUANTUM MAX HPHT packer, 10K antiswab service tool, ClearPAC XD fluid, and a MudSOLV filtercake removal module. The solution enabled a complete annular pack, eliminated a separate trip to remove filtercake, saved 48 hours of rig time and more than USD 1 million, and delivered production that exceeded expectations.
