Engineered Completions Improve Eagle Ford Perforation Efficiency 28%

SLB worked with Eagle Ford Shale operators to improve horizontal well completions in South Texas. The challenge was to better account for variations in stress and reservoir quality along laterals so more perforation clusters would contribute to production, beyond the 64% average achieved with conventional geometric completion designs.

SLB used Mangrove reservoir-centric design software with the completion advisor, fed by ThruBit through-the-bit logging services and Sonic Scanner acoustic data conveyed in cased hole by the TuffTRAC tractor, to engineer customized completions. The approach increased average perforation efficiency to 82%, cut nonperforming clusters by 50%, reduced fracture-initiation pressure variation in one stage from 700 psi to about 250 psi, and delivered a calculated first-year NPV gain of USD 1.5 million with less than USD 100,000 in added logging cost.
