Enervest Achieves 23% Higher ROP and Exceeds Build Rates in Interbedded Onshore Formation

Enervest worked with SLB to drill 8¾-in curve sections in the Granite Wash play, where interbedded, abrasive, and variably hard formations made it difficult to achieve desired build rates, maintain directional control, and complete the curve in a single run. The company needed faster ROP and better dogleg severity while avoiding the risk and downtime associated with multiple bit runs and moving parts in hybrid bits.

SLB recommended StingBlade conical diamond element bits with Stinger elements, designed to reduce reactive torque and improve tool face control. Using the bit in the Armstrong 2004 HB well, Enervest drilled the curve in one run, exceeded build-rate targets, and achieved 23% higher on-bottom ROP with less WOB than offset hybrid-bit runs; median true sliding ROP was also more than twice that of the comparison runs.
