EmbaMunaiGas Optimizes Well Trajectory Using Multilayer Bed Boundary Detection Service

EmbaMunaiGas worked with SLB to improve placement of a horizontal well in Kazakhstan. The company wanted to keep the wellbore closer to the bottom of the target interval to reach better reservoir properties, while avoiding a bottom exit, navigating structural uncertainty from a nearby fault, and limiting excess maneuvering for smoother completions.

SLB used PeriScope HD multilayer bed boundary detection service, together with adnVISION azimuthal density neutron measurements, to map reservoir boundaries, understand structural dip, and confirm layer quality in real time. This enabled EmbaMunaiGas to place the horizontal wellbore within the target interval, stay away from a low-resistivity layer below and a possible gas zone above, and avoid extra maneuvers, improving well placement and trajectory control.
