Dual ESPs Avoid Deferred Production of More than 2 Million Barrels in Offshore Wells

SLB worked with offshore wells operating company in an offshore field near Qatar that had more than 50 wells using ESPs and only one workover rig serving both drilling and ESP workovers. The customer needed to reduce deferred production from ESP failures and avoid drilling delays caused by diverting the rig to repair failed pumps.

SLB installed dual ESP systems with primary and backup ESPs in the same string, using configurations such as dual-bypass and dual-pod completions so production could continue immediately after a failure. The backup ESPs helped the customer produce more than 2 million additional barrels over five years from nine wells, added 3,564 days of production, increased cash flow by USD 15 million in one well, and significantly reduced drilling disruptions by allowing workovers to be scheduled more flexibly.
