Dragon Oil Eliminates Sustained Casing Pressure

SLB worked with Dragon Oil, a major operator on the Caspian Turkmen shelf, to address chronic sustained casing pressure in wells caused by poor isolation across a gas zone, narrow pore-to-fracture pressure windows, and frequent lost circulation. The problem often persisted even after cementing, because the cement sheath could not always withstand downhole stresses from perforating, stimulation, and production.

SLB recommended a cementing design using CEMENTICS zonal isolation software, a gas-tight conventional slurry, CemFIT Heal flexible self-healing cement, Losseal Microfracture lost circulation treatment, and CemPRIME Scrub engineered spacer for better hole cleaning. The approach was deployed in several Dragon Oil wells and eliminated sustained casing pressure: after initial pressure buildup following perforating, bleeding off the annulus pressure reduced it to zero and it did not build again.
