Det Norske Achieves Drilling Performance Consistency in Multiwell Field Development Project

SLB worked with a leading offshore oil field company operating the Ivar Aasen development offshore Norway to improve drilling efficiency and performance consistency. The customer needed better operational control during drilling, casing, and completion runs, while reducing problems tied to tripping and nonproductive time.

SLB deployed the OptiWell well construction performance service, supported by InterACT connectivity and VIRTUAL HYDRAULICS drilling fluid simulation software, to provide 24/7 real-time monitoring, KPI tracking, and tripping analysis. The result was record net and gross rate of penetration in the 8½-in and 12¼-in sections, a 48% reduction in slip-to-slip tripping time versus the project average, and more consistent casing and completion runs with improved BHA makeup and laydown performance.
