SLB worked with Oasis Petroleum North America in the Williston Basin of North Dakota, where the company’s hydraulically fractured horizontal wells faced artificial lift challenges from heavy sand flowback, high gas rates, high temperatures, scaling, and corrosive fluids. These conditions were causing frequent ESP failures and limiting run life in the shale environment.
SLB responded with redesigned REDA Continuum extended-life ESP pumps, MGH multiphase gas-handling systems, an advanced gas-locking control algorithm, and a customized chemical treatment program using KI-38021 and ChemWatcher chemical management. The combined solution increased ESP run life by 38%, from 196 days to an average of 271 days, cut corrosion-related failures to 6%, and achieved 96% treatment uptime during ESP operation.
