A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with North Kazakhstan Operating Company to reenter and deepen a 5 7/8-in well section through a depleted reservoir. The operator needed to improve BHA performance, reduce sliding time caused by positive displacement motors, lower the risk of differential sticking, and drill the section in one run with less tortuosity and better directional control.
SLB designed a custom BHA using a PowerDrive X6 rotary steerable system, Hydra-Jar AP drilling jar, Accelerator AP impact tool, and WELL COMMANDER circulating tool. This push-the-bit system drilled the section to TD in one 762-m run with no NPT, finished 5 days ahead of plan, and set an SLB record for the most drilling hours in a single run in a 5 7/8-in well section.
