A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Northern Kazakhstan Operating Company to drill four well sections shoe to shoe in one run each while also acquiring MLWD data for formation evaluation. The operator needed to drill the 16-in, 12¼-in, 8½-in, and 5⅞-in sections to more than 20,340 ft MD, but high inclination in the deeper sections made wireline logging impractical and required complex BHAs.
SLB designed customized BHAs using PowerDrive rotary steerable systems and PowerPak steerable motors, supported by optimized drill bits and quadcombo LWD and real-time MWD services. The wells were drilled shoe to shoe with one BHA per section, zero NPT, and full real-time and recorded MLWD data, finishing 12 days ahead of plan.
