Crucial Reservoir Pressure Data Prior to Field Recovery Strategies Saves Talos Energy USD 500,000

Talos Energy needed reliable formation pressure data in a highly depleted reservoir section in the Gulf of Mexico to support a waterflood recovery strategy at the Tornado field. With more than 9,000 psi of anticipated overbalance, the company faced risks such as differential sticking, losses, and uncertainty about vertical connectivity; SLB’s StethoScope formation pressure-while-drilling service was selected to meet these challenges.

SLB deployed StethoScope to collect 20 valid formation pressures across two hole sections, helping Talos Energy understand pressures in both the regional aquifer and producing horizon and eliminate the need for wireline runs. The result was safer drilling, resolution of connectivity uncertainties, and a savings of 2 rig days and more than USD 500,000 in rig time, while reaching TD ahead of schedule and under AFE.
