A SLB Case Study
Petroamazonas was developing the Coca-K field in eastern Ecuador and needed to better characterize potential pay zones in a heterogeneous 12¼-in. section with deteriorating hole conditions. Traditional triple-combo logging gave inaccurate porosity results in the mixed carbonate and shale formation, so the company turned to SLB and its proVISION Plus 825 magnetic resonance-while-drilling service.
SLB deployed the proVISION Plus 825 service with coring support, mud optimization, and real-time technical assistance to compare LWD data against core measurements. The run produced core-analysis-quality logging that accurately determined rock properties, identified an additional high-quality sand body with production potential, and revealed additional producible reserves. Petroamazonas was able to process and QC the data in about 24 hours for timely drilling decisions.
