A SLB Case Study
ConocoPhillips needed a way to collect representative fluids from a low-permeability Alaska reservoir where pressure was very close to saturation pressure, making fluid sampling difficult and risking nonrepresentative results. The challenge was compounded by deep mud invasion, slow pumping requirements, and the need for accurate real-time downhole fluid analysis. SLB provided the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform to address this issue.
Using SLB’s Ora platform with controlled pumping and focused radial inlets, ConocoPhillips was able to sample single-phase fluids in a constrained pressure window while keeping drawdown below saturation pressure. The platform helped shorten station time, reduce rig time and operational risk, and deliver high-quality fluid data for field development planning; at one station in 2.5-mD/cP-mobility rock, dual flowline pumps collected representative samples at less than 100 psi drawdown with rates below 1 cm3/s.
