Compact AUTOMATIC TANK CLEANING LITE System Improves QHSE, Reduces Waste Volumes, Water Consumption and Tank Cleaning Time

SLB worked with Americas Repsol, specifically Repsol Sinopec Brazil, to address excess slops and the slow, labor-intensive cleaning of mud tanks offshore Brazil. The customer wanted to reduce confined space entry, improve safety, and avoid the high water use and waste generation associated with traditional tank cleaning, using SLB’s M-I SWACO ATC LITE system.

SLB deployed an automated ATC LITE tank cleaning setup with strategically placed cleaning machines and slop pumps to recycle wash water. The system cleaned 28 tanks in 16 days using just 80 bbls of water, removed 1,360 bbls of waste, cut confined space entry to 6 hours, and reduced cleaning time to 119 hours versus an estimated 140 hours with the traditional method, while greatly lowering waste volumes, environmental impact, and overall operating costs.
