Colorado Operator Raises Codell Production with Cementing

SLB worked with an independent operating company in the Denver Basin’s Codell Formation to improve hydraulic fracturing efficiency in plug-and-perf wells. The customer was concerned that even with good centralization and spacers, nonaqueous drilling fluid left behind casing could create channels that allow frac fluid to move between perforation clusters, reducing zonal isolation and causing uneven fractures.

SLB recommended its Fulcrum cement-conveyed stimulation performance technology to modify the rheology of the remaining drilling fluid and limit interstage communication. In three Codell Sandstone wells, the SLB solution delivered stronger early production than nearby conventionally cemented offsets: first full month oil output was 40% higher on a median basis, 106% higher when normalized by perforated length, and 55% higher when normalized by proppant placed.
