A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a leading mill operating company that needed help recovering a stuck two-way check valve in a Marcellus Shale well after a failed burnover attempt. The valve had fallen downhole and was difficult to reach because its fishing profile was damaged, creating a risk of additional complications and delaying completion work.
SLB proposed an engineered fishing approach using CoilTOOLS coil tubing intervention tools, including a tapered box tap, magnet run, lead impression block, and burnover to remove interfering threads. The operation successfully retrieved the valve in 46 hours, avoided a costly cementing and milling workover, and saved the operator an estimated USD 72,000 while minimizing nonproductive time.
