CNOOC Uses SonicScope Service's Cement Evaluation Capabilities to Complete Complex ERD Gas Well
China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) wanted to complete a complex offshore extended-reach drilling gas well in the East China Sea to access four reservoirs. To support cement evaluation in the well, vendor SLB used the SonicScope multipole sonic-while-drilling service.
SLB applied the cement evaluation component of the SonicScope service to assess bond quality throughout the well while drilling, avoiding additional rig time for conventional bond logging. The service identified poor cement bond of about 50% in the upper section above the mud loss interval, while confirming good bonding greater than 80% in the lower intervals, enabling CNOOC to perform squeeze cementing and create a stronger seal.
