SLB helped Well Offshore California Company address lubricity concerns while drilling an extended-reach lateral in a sensitive offshore California environment. The customer needed a water-base reservoir drill-in fluid for environmental reasons, but worried that limited lubricity could create excessive torque and drag during drilling.

SLB deployed the CLEAN-LUBE brine lubricant with the FLOTHRU water-base reservoir drill-in fluid system. The lubricant reduced torque by 30% with no significant effect on fluid rheology, allowing the well to reach total depth and the 5½-in liner to be run successfully; without SLB’s lubrication solution, the well likely could not have been drilled and completed.
