Cabot Oil & Gas Saves More Than USD 1.4 Million in Eagle Ford Shale

Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation needed to reduce the cost and complexity of fracture-stimulation operations in 14 Eagle Ford shale wells. The company wanted to streamline its plug-and-perf completion process and avoid the expensive mechanical intervention normally required to initiate the first stage. SLB addressed this challenge with its KickStart rupture disc valve.

Using SLB’s KickStart rupture disc valve, Cabot was able to fracture the toe stage without coiled tubing intervention and then continue with standard plug-and-perf operations. The valves activated successfully in all 14 wells, and Cabot pumped more than 250,000 lbm of proppant at 65 bbl/min without incident. The change reduced costs by more than USD 100,000 per well and delivered total savings of more than USD 1.4 million, even after accounting for the valve cost.
