BroadBand Shield Service Boosts Oil Production up to 3,000% Near Water Zones, Serbia

SLB worked with a major oil production company in Serbia to improve output from mature tight-sandstone wells located near water zones. The customer needed to boost oil production without triggering excessive water production, especially in reservoirs with weak or thin barriers to nearby water-bearing intervals.

SLB applied the BroadBand Shield fracture-geometry control service, paired in some wells with conventional fracturing and in others with the HiWAY flow-channel fracturing technique, to limit fracture growth and reduce permeability near water zones. The result was improved oil production of more than 300% in all treated wells and up to 3,000% in the riskiest well, while water cut was reduced or only slightly changed; the most extreme well also flowed naturally for the first time.
