A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a large Bakken operator company in the Williston Basin after casing in a horizontal well became stuck before reaching planned depth, leaving a 901-ft openhole toe interval that needed to be stimulated. The operator was facing the choice of abandoning the toe section, leaving it unstimulated, or trying a conventional frac that might not adequately contact the full interval.
SLB applied its BroadBand Sequence fracturing service to temporarily isolate previously initiated fractures and stimulate the full openhole section without bridge plugs or inflatable packers. The interval was completed with 11 stages and 10 service treatments, increasing ISIP by 1,376 psi and reaching a maximum fracturing gradient of 0.967 psi/ft. The operator then reported a higher initial production rate and higher flowing pressure than direct offsets, showing that SLB’s solution successfully improved completion efficiency and reservoir contact.
