A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Whiting Petroleum Corporation in the Williston Basin to stimulate a challenging Pronghorn Formation well that had an uncemented 1,822-ft interval in the heel section, creating concerns about hydraulic isolation and completion effectiveness. The project used SLB’s BroadBand Sequence fracturing service to address the poor bond and uneven cement conditions behind casing.
SLB first ran a TuffTRAC cased hole services tractor with an ultrasonic tool to evaluate cement quality and casing condition, then applied BroadBand Sequence service across stages 34–47 to improve coverage and reservoir contact. SLB stimulated 14 stages in 14 hours, and follow-up production logging with Flow Scanner showed that the treated 1,822-ft section contributed 42% of total oil production even though it represented only 17% of the lateral, demonstrating a strong production gain from the sequenced fracturing approach.
