BP Optimizes Drainage of More Than 100 Million Barrels of Secondary Oil from Reservoir Offshore Azerbaijan

BP needed a faster, more efficient way to monitor reservoir performance in highly deviated wells and reduce the risk of poor drainage in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil field offshore Azerbaijan. SLB provided its WellWatcher BriteBlue DTS fiber solution to help BP understand conformance between producer and injector wells without interrupting production for logging interventions.

SLB installed permanent WellWatcher BriteBlue multimode DTS fiber outside the gravel-pack sand screens over the reservoir interval, enabling real-time temperature monitoring and thermal modeling of flow behavior. The solution helped BP identify differential depletion, improve reservoir management and water-injection strategy, and optimize drainage of more than 100 million barrels of secondary oil, while avoiding production shutdowns and extra rig time.
