Bit Performance and Optimization Saves Rockcliff 40 h With Record-Setting Bit Design, Catapulting ROP 69%

SLB worked with Rockcliff Energy in the Haynesville Basin to address a key drilling challenge: reducing well days by improving rate of penetration in a difficult, impact-prone shale formation. Rockcliff wanted faster drilling performance, and the bit was a primary focus for driving those gains.

Using SLB’s Synapse performance insights and optimization service, the team captured in-bit drilling data and used it to design a fit-for-basin bit tailored to the Haynesville Shale. The new design drilled 69% faster than the closest offset, reaching 114 ft/h over 6,734 ft versus 68 ft/h over 6,649 ft, and saved Rockcliff Energy nearly 40 hours of drilling time while also reducing vibrations by 55%.
