BHP Billiton Uses Ballistic Delay Fuse to Streamline CT Perforating, Improving Safety and Reliability

SLB worked with BHP Billiton to improve the efficiency, safety, and reliability of multiple-zone coiled tubing perforating in the Eagleville field in South Texas. The challenge was to control which zone was perforated at different times in a single run without relying on extra gun spacers.

SLB used its ballistic delay fuse technology between guns, allowing separate-zone perforating in one CT run with a single firing head. The result was successful single-run perforating in eight wells, less rig-up and rig-down time, and reliable performance under 9,000 to 16,000 psi and temperatures up to 327 degF, with timing error kept within 6%.
