Basol 2000 BDN, An Environmentally Acceptable Alternative

SLB worked with a North Sea Oil Producing Company to address suspected barium sulphate scale buildup in a 7,500 m horizontal oil producer. The scale was expected to obstruct wireline tools and perforation guns from reaching the required depth, so the company needed an environmentally friendly scale dissolver solution for the wellbore.

SLB used Basol 2000 BDN, an environmentally acceptable, biodegradable scale dissolver, along with CC-Turboclean to improve contact with the scale. After a 36-hour soak and seawater bullheading, the wireline tool was able to run down to 7,500 meters without restriction, with only small residual hard material found on inspection, showing that the treatment successfully removed the barium sulphate scale and enabled the planned operations.
