Preview of the Russia Based Operating Company Case Study

AxeBlade Bit Helps Operator Save USD 75,000, Volgograd Region of Russia

SLB worked with a Russia Based Operating Company drilling the 8½-in production section of the Novodmitrovskoe field in Russia’s Volgograd region. The operator needed to improve rate of penetration and bit life while drilling hard, interbedded limestone, anhydrite, dolomite, and claystone with high UCS.

SLB recommended a customized 8½-in AxeBlade ridged diamond element bit with strategically placed Stinger conical diamond elements, designed using the IDEAS integrated dynamic design and analysis platform. The solution delivered an average ROP of 36.7 ft/h, 46% higher than the previous field best, drilled 1,623 m (5,325 ft), saved 3 drilling days, reduced well cost by USD 75,000, and achieved minimal cutter wear.
