Case Study: Repsol saves 28.6 hours per well with SLB's NeoSteer CL ABSS

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Americas Repsol Case Study

At-bit steerable system increases ROP 25% while drilling curve and lateral in a single run, saving an average of 28.6 h per well in the Appalachian Basin

Americas Repsol was looking to improve rate of penetration in the curve while drilling the curve and lateral in a single run, without sacrificing dogleg severity or overall performance. To address this challenge, SLB proposed the NeoSteer CL at-bit steerable system, paired with a HyperBlade hyperbolic diamond element bit.

Using the SLB NeoSteer CL ABSS, Repsol drilled the curve at an average 160 ft/h and the lateral at 286 ft/h, eliminating the need for a bit trip and completing the curve and lateral in one run. The result was an average savings of 28.6 hours per well, with the last well saving roughly 2 days compared with a conventional BHA.
