Apache Increases Expected Oil Recovery by 11% with GeoSphere Service Offshore Australia
Apache Energy Limited, working with SLB, needed to maximize oil recovery in a complex offshore field in Australia with discontinuous sand bodies, heavy faulting, and limited recoverable oil. The company planned a 15-well multilateral campaign and needed better well placement to keep laterals within the reservoir and improve recovery.
SLB deployed the GeoSphere reservoir mapping-while-drilling service with real-time expert interpretation to map reservoir boundaries, top, and oil/water contact while drilling. The service helped Apache continuously update geological and seismic models, extend laterals by 11,155 ft (3,400 m), and reveal additional oil reserves, increasing expected oil recovery by about 11%.
