Allegro CD Service Saves Apache Energy 7 Rig Days in Australia’s North West Shelf

Apache Energy Limited was drilling development wells in Australia’s North West Shelf and faced wellbore instability, circulation losses, and other nonproductive time while trying to complete a 12¼-in horizontal section in an unstable offshore formation. SLB addressed this challenge with its Allegro CD directional casing-while-drilling service.

SLB used a retrievable BHA with a rotary steerable system and underreamer to drill and case a 1,054-m horizontal section in a single run, avoiding borehole collapse and reducing operational risk. The well section was completed in 5.88 days versus 12.96 days for the offset well, saving about 7 rig days and setting three Allegro CD service world records.
