A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with OMV Petrom, the largest oil producer in Romania, to drill a well in the Black Sea to a total depth of 2,320 m while minimizing nonproductive time and the risk of drilling through unstable formations. The project called for efficient drilling performance in both the 20-in and 95/8-in sections, using SLB’s XCD drillable alloy casing bit and Allegro CD directional casing-while-drilling service.
SLB deployed the XCD casing bit in the 20-in section and the Allegro CD service in the 95/8-in section to drill and case simultaneously, improving efficiency and wellbore quality. The XCD bit drilled 753 m in 69 h at 24 m/h, setting a European record for 20-in casing drilling section length and depth, while the Allegro CD service delivered 29 m/h and saved 62 h of rig time, with the high-quality wellbore enabling an excellent cementing job.
