A SLB Case Study
Aker BP faced repeated chalk influx events in a Valhall Field well in the North Sea that reduced production, caused slugging, and in one case temporarily killed the well. SLB was brought in to help restore production and identify the chalk source, using its ACTive Power coiled tubing system together with the Pulsar multifunction spectroscopy service.
SLB combined well cleanout and logging on the same coiled tubing conveyance, enabling real-time downhole pressure and weight data to guide the operation while keeping the well underbalanced and reducing the risk of sticking. This avoided swapping between CT and wireline on a space-limited platform, saved Aker BP more than 3 days, and cut about 41 hours from logging time with faster Pulsar service logging; the real-time measurements also helped identify debris and chalk bridges that were not visible at surface.
