Aker BP Measures Bubblepoint Pressure Downhole and Collects Single-Phase Samples from Mudstone

Aker BP worked with SLB to address the challenge of obtaining clean, representative single-phase fluid samples from a complex mudstone reservoir on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The formation was undercompacted and very low permeability, making it difficult to manage pressure drawdown without causing fluid phase change, formation erosion, or tool plugging. SLB’s Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform was used to support the effort.

Using the Ora platform’s precisely controlled low-flow pumping, SLB was able to manage cleanup and downhole decompression to measure bubblepoint pressure and collect the first clean reservoir samples. Aker BP measured bubblepoint pressure at 224.4 bar, within 0.4 bar of the laboratory result, while also gaining real-time downhole fluid characterization and confidence in reservoir evaluation and flow simulation.
