Aker BP Assesses Ivar Aasen Reservoir Connectivity with Real-Time Asphaltene Gradient

Aker BP needed more reliable reservoir connectivity data in the western part of the Ivar Aasen field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. With sparse data and formation pressure very close to saturation pressure, the company faced difficulty obtaining representative fluids without contamination using conventional tools, so it turned to SLB’s Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform.

SLB recommended a focused radial probe with large flow area, independent flow control for sample and guard inlets, and intelligent planning for real-time downhole fluid analysis. The approach delivered fluid with less than 1% contamination and kept it in single phase, enabling accurate DFA and multi-depth sampling. SLB’s contextual insights product provided a real-time asphaltene gradient that Aker BP integrated into its reservoir model, reducing vertical and lateral connectivity uncertainty and improving field visualization in Petrel while the tool was still in the well.
