A SLB Case Study
Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) needed to convert a nonproducing vertical well in the Messla Field, Libya, into a horizontal sidetrack while managing significant structural uncertainty. With poor seismic resolution, drilling challenges, and the need to place the well at the top of the reservoir to avoid the oil/water contact, AGOCO turned to SLB for help using the GeoSphere reservoir mapping-while-drilling service.
SLB deployed the GeoSphere 475 service, alongside the Impulse integrated MWD platform and adnVision azimuthal density neutron service, to map the reservoir in real time and guide geosteering into the sweet spot. The solution identified faults, reservoir thickness changes, the shale cap, and the OWC, allowing AGOCO to avoid unwanted zones and bring the well back into production at 3,000 bbl/d with zero water cut and no NPT.
