A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a leading Gulf of Mexico operating company on a deepwater subsalt well that had a tight annulus, losses, poor centralization, and compressible drilling fluid, making it difficult to confirm cement placement and meet regulatory barrier requirements. The operator needed to verify that enough cement was placed above permeable formations before drilling ahead and later abandoning the well.
SLB used its Invizion Evaluation service together with the USI ultrasonic imager and Sonic Scanner acoustic scanning platform to assess well integrity and determine top of cement. The integrated analysis confirmed TOC at 15,269 ft MD, saved two days of rig time, supported advance planning for abandonment, and eliminated wireline runs on two subsequent sections, reducing operational time and cost.
