Case Study: a major oil operating company achieves 2-ppm produced water reinjection with SLB advanced media technology

Preview of the Major Oil Operating Company Case Study

Advanced Media Technology Recovers 98% of Emulsified Heavy Oil from Produced Water

SLB worked with a major oil operating company in southeastern Europe that was producing 15,000 bbl/d of heavily contaminated produced water during heavy oil production. The customer needed to reduce asphaltene-laden oil, diesel-range organics, and suspended solids from up to 800 ppm down to less than 10 ppm so the water could be reinjected for enhanced oil recovery.

SLB implemented a three-stage advanced media oil-free water treatment system, combining a coalescing separator, advanced regenerative water treatment media, and advanced media polisher filters, along with automatic controls and anodic protection for corrosion resistance. The system reduced the water to 2 ppm oil-in-water, removed 98% of the total oil, and consistently kept outlet contamination at or below the reinjection target, enabling reuse of the treated water.
