Preview of the Major Oil and Gas Operating Company Case Study

Advanced Media Technology Recovers 98% of Emulsified Heavy Oil from Produced Water

SLB worked with a major oil and gas operating company in southeastern Europe that was producing 15,000 bbl/d of produced water during heavy oil operations. The water contained highly variable, asphaltene-laden oil and diesel-range organics, with total suspended solids up to 800 ppm, and the company needed to reduce contaminants to below 10 ppm so the water could be reinjected for enhanced oil recovery.

SLB customized a three-stage advanced media oil-free water treatment system that included an oil-water separator, advanced regenerative water treatment media, and advanced media polisher filters. The solution consistently handled large fluctuations in inlet quality and reduced oil-in-water from as high as 2,500 ppm to 2 ppm, removing 98% of the oil and enabling reinjection of the treated water well below the original 10-ppm target.
