Advanced Cement Evaluation Saves Operator 15–45+ Hours in Rig Costs

SLB worked with a leading operating company in Alaska that needed to determine top of cement and reduce wait-on-cement time in a highly deviated well. The job was especially challenging because low temperatures near the TOC and only a small density difference between the mud, spacer, and lightweight slurry made cement evaluation and contamination detection difficult.

SLB used the Invizion Evaluation service, including the WELLCLEAN II cement placement simulator and Isolation Scanner cement evaluation service, to predict fluid placement, identify the best time to log, and confirm cement quality behind casing. The well was logged only 27 hours after cementing instead of the usual 42 to 72+ hours, saving about 15 to 45+ hours in rig costs and giving the operator high-confidence confirmation that the cement had set.
