A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA), which needed to obtain 3,637 ft of high-resolution logging-while-drilling images in a highly deviated 8½-in section with a high risk of stick/slip while drilling through carbonate formations. The well profile, conductive water-based mud, and severe deviation made it difficult to capture consistent borehole images.
SLB deployed the MicroScope HD 675 resistivity and high-definition imaging-while-drilling service, enabling image-based depth corrections and continuous rotational acquisition during drilling. Despite stick/slip and rotation varying from 0 to 250 rpm, SLB captured high-resolution images across the entire section, supporting detailed fracture, porosity, and sedimentology analysis while maintaining an average ROP of about 40 ft/h.
