ACTive Services and Discovery MLT System Increase Injectivity 17,000 bbl/d in Complex Multilateral

SLB worked with an offshore oil well company operating a complex five-lateral water injector well in Saudi Arabia. The customer needed to access and stimulate carbonate formation in an openhole environment while managing a high risk of sticking and difficult depth correlation across the laterals.

SLB used the Discovery MLT multilateral reentry system and ACTive live downhole coiled tubing services, including real-time gamma ray logging, pressure transient testing, and distributed temperature sensing, to access, evaluate, and stimulate each lateral. The operation increased injectivity from 3,000 to 22,000 bbl/d, saved more than 20% of conventional treatment fluid volume, and improved stimulation design enough that the same SLB technique was approved for additional wells.
