ACTive Isolation Service Reduces Water Production by 4,000 bbl/d in an Openhole Horizontal Well

SLB worked with a leading water production company operating a depleted, naturally fractured openhole horizontal well in the Ratawi oolitic limestone reservoir in Wafra oil field. The well was producing 6,157 bbl/d with 94% water cut, and the operator needed to shut off water from the lower horizontal section despite limited surface pressure response in the depleted reservoir.

SLB deployed its ACTive Isolation live CT zonal isolation service, using a CoilFLATE coiled tubing through-tubing inflatable packer along with flowing and rigid gels to isolate the water-producing zones in a single run. The intervention eliminated 4,000 bbl/d of water production and increased oil production by 30%, with no subsequent acidizing required.
