A SLB Case Study
Clayton Williams Energy, working with SLB, needed to complete and stimulate a highly stressed, heterogeneous horizontal Wolfcamp shale well without lateral log measurements. The main challenge was dealing with casing size limitations and determining the best targets along the lateral based on geomechanical properties.
SLB used the Petrel E&P software platform and Mangrove engineered stimulation design to build a 3D structural and property model from offset-well data and optimize the completion design. By placing perforation clusters based on modeled geomechanical properties rather than geometric spacing, SLB helped Clayton Williams Energy improve stimulation distribution, and the operator reported 67% more sand placed per stage than a comparable offset well.
