3D Geological Model Based on Sequence Stratigraphy Reduces Uncertainty in Deep Carbonate Reservoirs

SLB worked with Northern Kuwait Operating Company to reduce uncertainty in deep, naturally fractured, high-pressure/high-temperature carbonate reservoirs in northern Kuwait. The operator had limited well penetration and poor seismic resolution, making it difficult to predict the areal distribution of depositional facies and reservoir properties for deeper Jurassic targets.

SLB helped build a high-resolution 3D geological model using sequence stratigraphy, integrating core analysis, well logs, seismic, and analog validation. The model was used to drill four wells, and the predicted reservoir facies type and thickness closely matched actual results, improving confidence in field development decisions and the connectivity of critical flow units.
