A Slalom Case Study
VML partnered with Slalom to tackle the environmental impact of promotional email at scale. Using Slalom’s help, VML set out to create a simple solution that could reduce the carbon footprint of digital communications and support global brands with more sustainable CRM campaigns.
Slalom implemented “Vanishing Emails,” a tool built with algorithms and AWS cloud infrastructure that identifies and deletes expired promotional emails based on sender, subject line, and content patterns. The solution also includes an engaging interface with sustainability insights and carbon equivalencies, helping make the impact tangible; in 2024, when more than 361 billion emails are expected to be sent and over 30% are promotional, the tool gives VML and WPP a practical way to reduce CO2 emissions from inboxes.
